Differences among the [Old] Natural Man, [New] Spiritual Man, and Carnal Man

This original article of "Differences among the Natural Man, Spirit Man, and Carnal Man," was written by Pastor Terry in 2009. And Kingdom Glory Ministries Founder, Rene' Charles Purvis, modified it.

In Apostle Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, he refers to three types of people: the Natural Man, the Spiritual Man, and the Carnal Man. What are these types of men and which are you?

First of all, what is the Natural Man? "But the Natural Man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned," (1Cor2:14NKJV).

The Natural Man is the person, who does not know Christ (*Jesus Messiah). That person was never born-again by the Holy Spirit and, therefore, the Spirit does not live within that person. That person neither desires spiritual things, nor can that person understand them. The Apostle Paul says that the things of God are foolishness to such a man and others like him. To them, salvation and surrender to Jesus are a waste of time. Rather than living for God, they would rather for self [which is what "Humanism--a philosophical stance that emphasizes the individual..." is all about]. Ultimately, such men will stand before God and be judged for their sin, (Rev20:11-15).

The second type of man the Apostle Paul refers to is the "Spiritual Man." "But he, who is spiritual, judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 'For wh1o has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him." But we have the mind of Christ (*Jesus Messiah), (1Cor2:15,16NKJV)...How does someone receive his Spiritual Man?

First of all, for someone to receive his Spiritual Man, he must be born-again by Father God's Holy Spirit, which is the Father's Breath and empowerment, (John3; 1John5:7NKJV). But that's not all. The one, who receives the Holy Spirit Gift of the Spiritual Man, now not only still has his [Old] Natural Man (his fleshly mind, body, and fleshly spirit for breathing, under control of Self and still sins, and the part that withers away), but also his [New] Spiritual Man, under the control of God's Holy Spirit, and that part, which is being conformed and perfected in the image of Jesus, and which is eternal and does not and cannot sin, and which is part of God Himself. Notice what Paul writes:

But as it is written: "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him." But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God, 1Cor2:9-12NKJV.

Through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, God reveals to us his deep spiritual truths. Such truths include God's plan of salvation as well as how to live as a follower of Jesus Messiah. The Spiritual Man is someone, who is a Spirit-led man. 

There is a third type of man Pau describes, and he's the "Carnal Man." Warren Wiersbe in his New Testament Commentary describes the Carnal Man as--"the immature Christian, the one who lives on a childhood level because he will not feed on the Word and grow." The Apostle Paul said this of the Carnal Man--

"And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, babes in Christ (*Messiah). I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and division among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? (1Cor3:1-3NKJV).

[Ministry Founder's Note: The asterisks found behind the name, Christ (*Messiah) are mine because nowhere in the Old Testament it says the Christ is coming. But it does say, the "Messiah" in the New Testament is coming. Although in the Greek Christ (Cristos) means the "Anointed One," the same as Messiah does, but regardless, in the OT, it mentions the Messiah. You ask, then how and where did the Name, "Christ," come from? My plan is to reveal that in another Block/Blog. HINT: Start by researching the words, "Christmas," "Christendom," "Christening," Christmas tree," Christ's birthday, December 25th, and Trinity--Nowhere in the Bible these terms are mentioned. And why is Christmas associated with Santa Claus [his birthday is December 6th] and Rudolph the red-nose reindeer? And what about Easter and the Easter bunny and eggs, when the bunny rabbit produces baby rabbits and not eggs! And what about the Spanish Inquisition (1478-1834) and how those monks tortured people to join their faith, the Crusaders in the Middle Ages (1096-1300), and which is the 18th wealthiest nation in the world per capita, and which city is called the city that sits on seven hills? And how is this city related to Babylon, Nimrod, and the Trinity? And what or who did God refer to in Revelation18:4, "Come out of her (the Babylonian system}, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues." There is much to learn about the papacy, Rome, the Vatican City, Catholicism, and the Protestant Reformation, my brothers and sisters in the Lord, Jesus Messiah! I pray we all share the TRUTH with each other to grow the Bride of Jesus Messiah, amen? And I pray God's blessings, wisdom, leading, guidance, direction, and protection over your lives and on your journey to the Kingdom of God, (Matthew6:33), forevermore, amen!]
